ALLISON THEISEN

In May 2019 I will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the School of Journalism and Strategic Media at the University of Arkansas. My degree emphasizes studies in advertising and public relations, and I will also have a minor in African and African-American studies.

 

Throughout my academic career, I have improved my writing skills, oral communication, and the ability to collaborate with others on ideas and projects. My journalism studies have helped me learn to pay sharp attention to detail, and my minor in African and African-American studies has helped me see the world from a new perspective that will assist me in communicating with different ethnic groups. I am also an experienced photographer and journalistic writer.

 

Along with my academics, I had the opportunity to work as a marketing assistant with the North American Hockey League (NAHL). I began my work there as in intern when I was a senior in high school, and came back to the league during summer 2017, where I designed marketing elements for events, managed social media accounts, and worked directly with league staff (examples of my work with the NAHL are found in my portfolio). I have also traveled several times to tournaments and showcases with league staff, where I sold merchandise, managed the league Snapchat account, and took on various other activities that come with hosting an event attended by hundreds of scouts and fans.

 

In spring 2018, I began my role as a Student Brand Ambassador for Kaplan Test Prep. In this position, I designed social media graphics to be used during marketing campaigns for each semester (which are be found in my portfolio). I also utilized social media and improved my public speaking skills as I spoke to clubs across campus. This position helped me improve my design skills in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, and allowed me to find new ideas for ways to market a brand to people in an organic, honest way.

 

I believe my experience as a student and in my professional roles have helped me become a well-rounded person. I work hard and am willing to learn so I can be the best at what I do. Because of this, I believe I am a great candidate.
